The rates we charge authors for printing each of their books are clearly displayed on our web site for all to see. Our competitors use a somewhat complex discount structure based on the book's Retail Price--the retail price that the Publisher sets. That's right--in many cases the publisher actually tells the author what price they may sell their book for and then the publisher typically offers between 35% to 70% discount off the Retail price they establish. Of course this is a significant conflict of interest. And to get the 70% discount--the author has to spend thousands of dollars and buy 1000 or more books. Ouch.
